Aruba: What’s Your Happy Place?

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Aruba Tourism Authority for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

What's your happy place? Mine is a beach with white sand, turquoise waters and lots of water sports. Aruba offers all of these and more.

You know how people talk about their "happy place"? The mental image they conjure up and try to disappear into whenever they're stressed or annoyed?

Mine is a beach—white sand, turquoise water, warm balmy breezes, palm trees and rum drinks. Give me a warm towel, a beach hat and a great novel and I'm in heaven.

Granted, I don't get to do this very much, but it's a dream. Isn't it almost everyone's dream?

That's why, someday, I will find myself in Aruba and I don't think it'll be hard to persuade my husband to come with me. Our relationship is built upon activity—we love to hike, surf, snorkel, run along the ocean, ride bikes… any sort of physical activity we can manage to do together is what makes us happy and strengthens our relationship. And when we think of a vacation it's not just about sleeping on the beach under an umbrella. We also need a spot where there's a lot of physical activity and fun: windsurfing, kite surfing, wave runners or simply floating in the ocean above a billion fish glittering with a rainbow of colors.

Aruba has all of that. And horseback riding. Seriously.

You can also escape to the rugged windward coast for some privacy—as well as coves and caverns carved out of the limestones by the pounding surf, or enjoy culture, food and shopping in the newly-rennovated city of Orenjastad where there are high-rise hotels and a thriving nightlife. Locals and tourists enjoy the casual bars on the beaches or piers or attend wild parties well into the night.

If nightlife isn't your style, there's the Arikok National Park, the Casibari and Ayo rock formations and Indian caves. If you've got kids, there is a butterfly garden, gold mine museum (my could would love that) and a donkey sanctuary!

And it's easy to get around Aruba – driving is on the right side of the road, for those of us who seem stubbornly committed to our way of driving, and international licenses are accepted. There's also a fantastic bus system and air conditioned coaches offering tours of the island.

All you need now is great dining and you're all set for a fantasy vacation. Aruba offers a wide variety of options—from fantastic local flavor to gourmet world-class chefs. There's Argentinian, Japanese, Middle Eastern and of course those amazing Caribbean jerk ribs.

What more could you want from a fantasy vacation? Aruba travel has it all.
